| THE STAG AND HEN PARTY The stag / bachelors party Stag parties are an accepted feature of the modern wedding. They involve male friends and relatives of the groom and often of the bride as well, all getting together and putting on a night of farewell to the groom's freedom of bachelorhood. Stag parties are always males only . T he organisation of a bachelor's party is the traditional responsibility of the B est M an. The sequence of anticipated events is usually kept secret from the groom in order to maximise his surprise and enjoyment. Stag parties vary according to taste and financial circumstance . I n the past , stag parties would often have taken place the night before the wedding. Nowadays it is far more common for it to be arranged for the weekend or two weekends before. The brides maid / hen's party There is no reason why a bride may not spend an evening with close friends as a farewell to her life as a single lady and this has become an established tradition in the American custom. It is know more as bridal showers at which friends of the bride would gather, each bringing a small personal gift for the bride. The maid of honour organises the hen party. The party may be at home or a restaurant, the choice depends on the brides maid. The chief bridesmaid is responsible for the welfare of the bride as the best man is for the groom.
